CBD has blown up in recent years and, alongside that, comes many new trends! One of the latest trends is CBD yoga, but what exactly does this mean?
CBD is a powerful extract from the hemp plant. Unlike THC, it won’t get you high. It’s thought to have lots of therapeutic benefits for our health and wellbeing – it essentially carries the same power as Cannabis, but without the psychoactive effects.
What Is CBD Yoga?
Well, the clue’s in the name! CBD yoga is simply the practice of using CBD whilst doing yoga.
There is actually a long history between yoga and cannabis. Cannabis is a sacred plant in India – the place where yoga originated – and they have been used alongside each other for centuries.
However, getting high obviously isn’t legal in the UK, and isn’t particularly practical either! Luckily, CBD doesn’t get you high – it can provide you with the same kinds of benefits to your yoga practice, but without the psychoactive effects.
Why CBD Yoga – What Are The Benefits?
Interestingly, many of the benefits of CBD and of yoga seem to overlap. Namely, anxiety relief, stress relief, improved sleep, pain relief, and inflammation relief. Therefore, it seems only natural for the two to go together.
When using CBD during your yoga practice, it may help to bring a new level of focus, relaxation, and zen. It’s thought that CBD may help with the anxiety response in the brain which could help you to relax, quietening unnecessary thoughts and worries. So, pairing CBD and yoga could promote mental balance and an increased focus on the practice.
CBD could also help to reduce muscle soreness post-yoga. You may experience muscle inflammation, especially if you practice a more athletic form of yoga such as Vinyasa, and this often leads to post-yoga pain. CBD may help to relieve this pain, making recovery much faster and easier. This faster muscle recovery will also allow you to do your next practice sooner.
Best of all, it’s thought CBD could enhance the sense of bliss or intense relaxation that we feel after practising yoga. This is especially apparent if you’re doing a more meditative or relaxation-focus style of yoga, such as Yin or Restorative yoga. It’s thought that CBD can help to prolong this bliss, making you feel good for longer… nice!
You can do CBD yoga alone simply by using a CBD oil before your usual practice. Alternatively, there are plenty of CBD yoga classes that you can attend, especially if you live in a city like London, Brighton, or Manchester.
